What are High-Pressure Injection Systems?
/From poorly prepared foundation footings to inadequate mix or steel reinforcement, there are many reasons why cracks can form in poured concrete foundation walls. One reason, however, is more common than the others: rapid curing.
The good news? A high-pressure injection system can be used to fill these cracks so that any future problems are eliminated.
Rapid Curing: The #1 Reason Wall Cracks Form in Concrete Foundations
When there is rapid concrete curing followed by differential foundation settlement during the building’s construction, concrete foundation walls can form cracks.
Although rarely a structural concern, these types of cracks can cause potential water damage.
If noticeable in your home’s foundation, it’s important to get an expert inspection completed right away.
Using a High-Pressure Injection System to Complete Concrete Crack Repairs
If an expert finds your foundation wall cracks to be problematic, a high-pressure injection system can be used to quickly and efficiently repair the cracks – without having to complete external excavation!
First, small holes will be drilled approximately two-thirds of the wall thickness deep and three inches apart along the entire crack. The ports are then glued and hammered into the drilled holes before a special fitting is screwed into the port.
Next, one of two injectable materials gets inserted into the prepped ports. Polyurethane is one of the types of injectable materials. Using high pressure, this material is activated and injected into the crack and then allowed time to cure. During the curing process, the polyurethane expands approximately ten times larger than its original volume, thereby creating a watertight gasket seal.
When wall cracks are deemed to compromise the structural integrity of a building’s poured concrete foundation wall, epoxy is used as the injectable material. Other than the change in material, the application process is the same as polyurethanes.
The Benefits of Using a High-Pressure Injection System as Your Wall Crack Filler
Using a high-pressure injection system to repair your cracked concrete provides many benefits!
The biggest benefit of this effective wall repair method is that it can be done quickly and efficiently since there is no need for external excavation. This also means that less cost is involved, making your foundation crack repairs more affordable to fix than other methods.
When done properly, this type of wall crack filler is permanent and waterproof – meaning your water damage worries can disappear, too.
